You're not really missing a whole lot with gar.

They do fight well, but it's the guys who bow fish that really have the fun.

I think 90% are caught by people fishing for "real" fish, but if you ever find your way to Arkansas, you'll be able to try it out in the White, Black, Red and Mississippi rivers. They got some big 'uns down there.
